Want to Stop Smoking?
|
Want to stop smoking ? The best advice I would give is - never start in the first place! I don't like smoking and I have a grudge against smokers. I think that an intelligent person should not smoke because there is nothing clever in smoking. In my opinion, an intelligent person will try very hard not to get addicted to anything and doesn't get self-poisoned on purpose because environment does it effectively enough for us! But a lot of people do start to smoke when they are young and they aren't aware of the consequence of smoking. They've heard about the lung cancer or other smokers' diseases, but they think it doesn't apply to them. They usually start to smoke to prove themselves and show the world that they are "grown ups". And then, before they know it, they start to get addicted to smoking and become chain smokers. And then it's too late for them. Giving up smoking is hard but not impossible. There are very few people who have a will strong enough to do it without any extra help. Many will give up at some point - sooner or later they will think "oh, just that once because I'm stressed, I had a hard day, etc" and they go back to their addiction. Don't give up giving up - even if you give up for few months at a time it's better then not at all. And you don't have to do it alone - smoke giving up devices like chewing gums or nicotine replacement patches are indeed expensive (sometimes even more so then smoking!) but many people do not realise that asking your GP for help, you can get them on NHS prescriptions which greatly cut the costs of giving up smoking. P.S for all those who do not wish to give up please be considerate to others who do not want to be a passive smokers. If you want to light up leave the room or be away from other people - your smoke caries for quite some length with the wind. Fortunately nowadays smoking have been banned in public places but it is still sometimes hard to avoid for example when you happen to walk on the street and have to follow behind somebody who's been walking in front of you and smoking - you're effectively smoking with them. And don't get me started on employees who smoke - why do they get to have a break for smoking when the rest of us continue to work ? |
