The world may be getting smaller but nations are no closer to understanding one another

The technological developments over the past decades have enabled people to do things that could never even have been dreamt of before. Whether it's the moon or a deep ocean, humans seem to have been everywhere.

Although breaking the barrier of sound both in the air and on land, people still cannot break the barriers that divide them culturally. Even though the Word Wide Web enables communication of those individuals at both "ends" of the world, who may probably never see each other in their life times, we are still not a bit closer to communicating witch one another. We are constantly on the brink of a war, whether it's another conflict in Gulf, or a match between rival football teams. Ignorance, intolerance, racism - these are the words that best describe ever-present sordid side of the human nation. Only a handful of people can pride themselves in being understanding of other cultures. The rest of us is always fighting. Land, religion, power - these are the things people are ready to die for, and kill for.

In spite of the world getting smaller and smaller in the technological sense, people are becoming more and more alienated. Spending their lives hooked on computers, mobile phones or television, they are no longer able to really talk to each other. Increased is the number of psychoanalytics and psychiatrists who constantly analyse us and feed us with tranquilisers and anti-depressants to help us face our lives. "Love thy neighbour" has become an outdated and unrealistic dictum. Some people even predict the inevitable decline of our race as a punishment for all the blood shedding and ever lasting conflicts and misunderstandings all over the world.

Whatever may come upon us, we should all use the available technological and spiritual resources to overcome the hatred that's eating us inside, and at least try to become better people. Every human is different and has a right to be respected for these differences. By starting to love ourselves and be happy without ourselves, we can all understand and be happy with each other.
